child Assessments

About

The socio-emotional assessments are done with children between the ages 3 and 18. The purpose of these evaluations are to evaluate different systems in the child’s world as well as the child’s socio-emotional functioning and emotional experience of these systems. The evaluation also aims to identify and understand different factors that contributes to the child’s current experiences, in order to make the necessary recommendations. Therapy&Art do history-free evaluations. This implies that the therapist has no information regarding the reason for referral, history of your child and/or family. We prefer to do history free socio-emotional evaluation as this ensures objectivity and neutrality of the evaluation process. With very young children (2-4-year-old) this process is however not always feasible and an intake interview with parents might be necessary. The evaluation is usually completed during a two-hour session (either once off or over two sessions of 1 hour each) with primary school age children. With pre-school children (age 3-5) it is sometimes necessary to do the evaluation over three sessions of 1 hour each.

Outline

a) History free socio-emotional assessment sessions with the child;

b) Collateral interview with parents

c) Conducting collateral information in the form of questionnaires completed by parents and the school

d) Feedback session to parents

– School and peer relationships;
